Why fat injections and PMMA injections are not compatible with the Penuma implant

These procedures are not compatible with the Penuma implant as they increase the likelihood of complications. Any advice that suggests having either of these injections performed before a Penuma implant should be discussed immediately with Dr. Elist, as you will no longer be eligible for a Penuma implant.

Fat injections open you up to complications such as infection and fat embolism, especially due to the highly vasculature tissue contained within the penis. Incorrect injection of PMMA microspheres into the penis also has undue risk since the likelihood of microspheres entering the bloodstream is high. These procedures are difficult to reverse, as well.

Eligibility for the Penuma implant

Eligibility for the Penuma implant generally consists of but is not limited to the following:

• Good overall health
• Not prone to high blood pressure
• No on-going infections, especially in the penis
• No previous penile enhancement procedures, although the type of treatment performed can be discussed with one of our consultants to further determine your eligibility.
• Good skin quality
• Over 21 years of age
• Circumcised (circumcision can be performed prior to the procedure)
• Not on continuous use of blood-thinning medication

These conditions should be met but can be discussed with one of our consultants to ensure that you are confirmed to be a safe and suitable candidate for the Penuma implant.

Previous penile enhancement procedures can be a contraindication for the Penuma implant

Other penile enhancement procedures that could be a contraindication for the Penuma implant include but are not limited to the following:

• Fat grafting or fat injection
• PMMA/ silicone injections
• AlloDerm
• Other enhancement procedures

These are possible contraindications due to the fact that other procedures can lead to a higher risk of infections, complications, or damage to the penile skin. Damage to the penile skin specifically will restrict a patient from the option of having a Penuma implant inserted as it would be unsafe.

Can other penile enhancement procedures be reversed so that I am eligible for a Penuma implant?

In some cases, other implants can be removed prior to becoming eligible for a Penuma implant. This depends primarily on the nature of the foreign body that has been previously injected or grafted into the penis. Foreign material such as the PMMA microspheres is difficult to remove due to their ability to move and disperse within the penis and the body. Fat grafts can often be removed and may require being removed if the tissue has died and is not being naturally reabsorbed into the body. Even so, you will require time to heal prior to determining your eligibility.
