In the US, there is a subset of urological surgeons called prosthetic urologists who focus almost exclusively on the placement of penile implants for erectile dysfunction. Among them, there are a small group of elite surgeons who perform most of these penile implant procedures.The Penuma medical advisory board includes professors of urology, chairmen of prosthetic urology, and past presidents of major urological societies who have all been trained by Dr. Elist in the Penuma procedure for the enhancement of the penis.The training protocol for the Penuma procedure is very rigorous. First, physicians must have successfully performed hundreds of penile prosthesis surgeries for ED over many years of practice to demonstrate a track record of expertise in the placement of penile prostheses. Second, physicians must come to Beverly Hills to observe the placement of the Penuma implant done by Dr. Elist over multiple days. Each physician must also carefully study the surgical videos and training documents provided and are then examined by Dr. Elist in their proficiency.Finally, after successful completion of these phases, the physician conducts a number of cases in his/her local surgery center under Dr. Elist's direct observation. Throughout this time, physicians may be required to do more observation days in Beverly Hills.
